I want to thank Pete Hackney for responding to the "Move It Forward" entry. I think there are more members who feel we need to move the tees up to make the game more enjoyable. If there's to be a change, the board of governors needs to be made aware of the desires of the membership. This website is a good tool for doing just that. Let your voice be heard. Pat O'Brien

This responds to Pat's invitation to comment on the tees we play. The USGA and PGA (non-tour proffesionals) recommend moving to a tee that is enjoyable to play and speeds play. Our utter disregard for these recommendations has predictably led to a loss of aging players. If we are playing points then Tiger could play from the reds. He still has to play a lot better than usual to win.
When I joined the Sandcrabs I was told I would be on a wait list. The next tournament was Tiger Point where I got to play because so many members opted out due to course length. Back then it was several more tournaments before you got back in. This shows what members were willing to give up to avoid a long track.
At Scenic Hills I was angry over the white tees which were mostly four to eight yards in front of the blues on a wet track. Less than a club's difference. I managed two GIR'S, one with a 3-metal, and 17 of my 18 points. I putted extremly well but no birdies. Except for the putting, it was not much fun. On March 6 I played Secnic with my Wednesday group, ages 67 to 78. All four in my particular group have battled cancer. We played from the senior tees. I had seven GIR's with a birdie and a lot of pars even though the track was wetter than two Monday's earlier and I didn't putt nearly as well. It was a lot more enjoyable. Without a tee policy change I will probably drop out of the Sandcrabs after this year.
We should level with the courses we play that we can no longer provide full fields because of our tee policy. I'll bet the white tees would be a lot closer to the yellows than the blues when we play there.
One final comment. For only a nickle more tournament results could include the CTP winning distances, making them more interesting.

It has come to my attention that members have left our association because of the
tees from which we're required to play. Most members tee off from the white tees,
while others play from the senior tees. To play from the senior tees, one must have
a handicap that places him within the "D" Flight. This method of assigning tees
has a drawback: Depending on how one is playing, he may be in the C-Flight
one week and the D-Flight the next or vice versa. I'm not sure how we go about fixing
this or if it needs fixing. One members has recommended that players 80 years of
age and older play from the forward (tees) regardless of their handicap. If you have
any suggestions with regard to this matter please post it, and I'll see that the board of
governors gets it.
